Course Structure and Assessment
The exam preparation course can be studied via distance learning or class based if you live in the North East of England and can attend at our training centre in Gateshead.
The course will start on Friday 22nd September 2017 with an introduction session. There will be 30 sessions of 3 hours each. Over the duration of the course all class based sessions are recorded orally and made available to distance learning students via our virtual learning platform. This is to enable interpreters to maximise their learning potential by logging in and engaging on our secure learning portal. The sessions alternate between learning legal terminology via the study of the English Legal System and translation skills within a specific legal setting (theory of Law). Practicing interpreting and translation skills within the exam format, using past exam papers to allow you to develop your exam techniques. There will be continuous assessment of your progress throughout the course by the tutor and your language assessor, to monitor your learning. There will be homework every week to be completed and returned for marking. Between September and June there will be 3 full mock exams, following the DPSI exam format.
You will be expected to:
- Interpret consecutively and simultaneously (whispered) (Unit 1 – 50 minutes)
- Provide a sight translation into English (Unit 2- 10 minutes)
- Provide a sight translation from English (Unit 3 – 10 minutes)
- Translate in to English (Unit 4 – 60 minutes)
- Translate from English (Unit 5- 60 minutes)

Meet your Tutors
The tutors for DPSI are fully qualified teachers and linguists with many years of experience teaching interpreting and specialising in Law and Mental health. You will have the support of the DPSI tutor and a specialist assessor for your language pair to assist your vocabulary and glossary of legal terms and interpreting/translating techniques. Bridge Interpreting is an approved course and exam centre for the DPSI and offer a full range of qualifications for professional interpreters and translators nationally.
FEES
Course fee only
£825.00 including a 20 %saving – includes all resources, materials, past papers and mock exams and full access to all required study materials via our learning platform, this course fee can be paid in 3 instalments with the first paid on enrolment – you will be required to pay your exam fees separately.
Via Advanced learning loans the fees include, all exam fees, all resources including research books, interpreting theory reference books, all past exam papers for your language pair, training materials and study tasks resulting in no initial cash outlay and are £2995.
However as an incentive to encourage progression to higher qualification we are offering a 20% reduction to £2396 on an advanced learner loan. *
At the time of writing Bridge is waiting for the Skills Funding Agency to finalise advanced learner loan facilities for 2017/18. Please contact Bridge to discuss funding options.
*Advanced Learning Loans help learners aged 19 or over pay the fees charged by colleges and training providers for courses at Level 3 and above.
